Here at JMK, we feel incredibly fortunate to be based in the very heart of historic Kilkenny City. Just outside our workshop, the fabulous Butler House and Gardens offer us a daily dose of inspiration. Nestled within these gardens lies a scenic round pond, where carps glide gracefully, and an abundance of water lilies float gently. This spot has become one of our great favourites – a place where we often pause to sit beneath the dappled shade of the trees, completely enchanted by the peaceful scene. The water lily flowers drift softly on the water, while the iconic lily pads, with their upturned, cosy edges, provide a haven for frogs, tadpoles, and insects. It’s nature at its most appealing.

In that tranquil haven, our creativity and imagination were set alight. And then one day, a postcard featuring stylised water lily leaves drifted into our workshop, sparking a cascade of ideas that led to the very first Lily Pad Ring. This design evolved slowly over many years, with countless iterations refining its shape, texture, and proportions—an unhurried, organic process that mirrors our belief that truly timeless designs take time to mature.

As the ring’s charm grew and captured hearts, it naturally blossomed into a full collection. And so, drawing inspiration from the same tranquil haven, our Lily Pad Earrings were born, a delicate ode to nature’s timeless beauty. Their elegantly curved design captures the soft, organic flow of nature – much like a lily pad drifting effortlessly on still water.

Lovingly handcrafted by either Neill or Marie at our bench, every detail is meticulously refined using traditional goldsmithing techniques. From carefully forming its graceful outline to smelting the edge and creating the setting, each step is executed with the utmost care. Midway through the process, the earrings are hallmarked at the Assay Office in Dublin Castle—a nod to their quality and authenticity. Finally, Jim sets your stones and mattes the surrounding areas, creating a striking contrast against the high-polished edge.
